We teach many different skills at Near North but teamwork is one of the most important. Nowhere is that interaction more apparent than on the basketball court. Just watch in the video below as four players touch the ball as it goes baseline to baseline for the layup.
The 2016-2017 season concluded last week with an exciting round of championship games for both varsity teams. After splitting the series with City Day, the girls lost a hard-fought match to secure second place overall. The boys also came close to a championship but fought hard for a well-earned second place after an undefeated Ancona team was too much to overcome. The JV girls were knocked out of the first round of the tournament by the British School for a fourth place finish. The JV boys reached the third place game but fell to a tough Anshe Emet team to take fourth as well. The 6th grade boys finished the season 17-0, marking the first time a basketball team has gone undefeated in our school’s history.
Regardless of the wins/losses, all 52 students who participated in the basketball program have a lot to be proud of. They showed great sportsmanship through the season, worked together and learned a lot of lessons that will transfer from the hardwood to the rest of their life.
