Near North Montessori Summer Program 2008

General Info and Policies

Admission
Near North Montessori Summer Program is open to any student who meets course requirements as outlined in the program descriptions.  Except for several camps which are reserved for NNMS families, any child is welcome to attend Summer Program.

Camp Staff
Dynamic, caring staff are at the heart of Day Camp and our specialty camps.  Our carefully selected, experienced and well-trained staff have diverse backgrounds working with children.  They bring their talents and enthusiasm to connect with each child’s unique personality and interests.

The Day Camp Supervisor oversees the daily operations of camp, supporting Day Camp staff, coordinating camp activities and ensuring the safety of each camper.  He or she works closely with the Director of Summer Program to create a positive, nurturing environment, in which all campers and families feel welcome and special.

Specialty camp instructors coordinate with the Director of Summer Program and the Day Camp Supervisor to ensure specialty campers are part of the Summer Program community and daily activities.

Health and Safety
Our number one commitment is to our campers’ safety while they are participating in Summer Program.  To ensure the safety of each child, camp staff are assigned to small groups, no larger than 5 children for our youngest ones and 10 children for our 6-12’ers.  Staff trained in first aid and CPR are always available during Summer Program hours.  The main office is staffed with a health officer to attend to campers’ needs.

The Summer Program registration form asks you to indicate any health conditions and treatments your child may have.  Please feel free to contact Summer Program if you would like to discuss your child’s health concerns with one of our staff.

Fieldtrips
Day-campers will take fieldtrips each Thursday to interesting Chicago attractions/events.  Campers will always travel by school bus, accompanied by adequate staff and chaperones.

Swimming
Campers who are at least 4 years of age, or who measure 36” from floor to chin, have the opportunity to swim each day.  (For safety reasons, children must be able to stand in the pool with their head above the water.)  Children are supervised by Red Cross certified lifeguards and swim instructors.  Please send swim gear in a waterproof bag.  Swim suit, bathing cap (if hair is below the ears) and towel are required.  Please label all items with your child’s name or initials and be sure your child can identify their own clothes and bag.

Lunch and Snacks
Campers should bring bag lunches as food service is not provided.  Soda, energy drinks, candy, and peanut and tree-nut products are not permitted.  Because we have several students with severe peanut allergies, we maintain a strict peanut-free environment.

Morning and afternoon snacks are provided by camp staff and do not include peanut or tree-nut products.

Behavior
Children are expected to conduct themselves in a polite and respectful manner while at camp.  Near North administration reserves the right to ask campers to leave Summer Program if instances of poor conduct detract from the quality of other campers’ experiences.
