CPS has announced the dates they will administer the Selective Enrollment exam for 8th graders applying to CPS Selective Enrollment high schools. The dates are: 12/17, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4 and the locations include King, Lane, Lindblom, Westinghouse and Whitney.
These dates are later than they have been in the past few years. The later test dates mean that you will submit your CPS application before your child takes that exam and before you know their final score (the deadline to submit your on-line app is mid-December). Knowing that information before ranking your SE schools has been helpful in the past few years, but even without that info, you can still make an informed decision. I’m happy to talk about that with you individually when we get closer to the deadline.
If you attended my “Navigating the High School Application Process” on Monday, you’ll remember me encouraging you to have your child take the SE exam in November to get it out of the way. Due to this change in dates from CPS, those November dates are no longer an option.
Remember that the Selective Enrollment exam dates don’t impact the MAP test your child will take with CPS. If you’ve registered your 8th grader to take the MAP with CPS in October, that won’t change.
I will be repeating that presentation on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 8:45 AM if you missed it. I will post my slides on my blog after that date.
