Midterm reports were sent home yesterday afternoon. You should receive your child’s in the mailbox in the next day or two.
We see grades as opportunities for improvement. They are temporary sign-posts of how a student is doing. Grades, in conjunction with teacher feedback, allow the students to know what they need to do to improve. We focus on improving the quality of the work and, as a result of better work, the higher grades follow.
Please keep in mind that these grades do not measure your child’s personal attributes such as sense of humor, confidence, politeness or empathy. Some personal attributes like work ethic, perseverance and grit play a role in the final grade, but it’s an imperfect measure.
8th Grade parents: remember that private schools ask me to forward the First Trimester report card (which you will receive after Thanksgiving) as part of a high school application.
7th Grade parents: remember that in June the final grades from Trimester 1, 2 and 3 will be appropriately weighted and averaged. Due to our students’ lack of experience with grades prior to 7th Grade, we give more weight to Trimester 3 but Trimesters 1 and 2 are still part of the equation.
