Many children transitioned into new levels yesterday. Some bounced in the door and others looked a bit apprehensive but regardless of their state of mind, your child took a brave step. Change can be hard at any age but is essential for growth. It can feel bittersweet to see our child take the next steps, often without a backward glance. Perhaps today you are wondering or worrying about how your child is coping with the new environment. Remind yourself that because of the mixed age classrooms, opportunities for mentoring abound. Of course, teachers present the rules and expectations of the class but it is nice to have a seasoned pro show you the ropes. The structure of the environment is designed to integrate new members into the classroom community. Celebrating a transition is a practical way to build resilience. As the old adage states, “Change is the only certainty in life”.
