Application Process, Lotteries and Wait Pools
The application process varies by level. Please see details for each level below. We use September 1 as the date by which a child must be the appropriate age to enter a given level. Lotteries are used for 0 – 3-year-old applicants in order to allocate available spaces and to balance the classes by age, gender and diversity. Candidates who are not offered a space are placed in a wait pool and are contacted if an opening becomes available.
Applications can roll over from year to year. Parents are contacted by email in October asking them to confirm their interest in keeping their child’s application active for the following school year.
Parent/Infant (6 – 23 months old) and Toddler Community (24 – 35 months)
After the application deadline, all applicants are entered into a lottery to fill the available spaces in both programs. Results are sent by email in mid-March.
Primary – Three Year Olds
After the January 15 deadline, all applicants are entered in a preliminary lottery to select about 90 candidates who are invited to a Family Meeting. All other applicants are placed into a wait pool and are contacted as needed. You will be notified in January of these results.
The purpose of the Family Meeting is to determine that the child, the family and NNM are a “good match.” In March a second lottery of those families who attended Family Meetings is held to fill the number of available spaces. Results are sent by email in mid-March.
Transfer Students Aged Four and Older
There is no deadline for applications for older students. Parents who apply will have their child’s name added to the wait pool for their age group and will be considered for admission should a space become available. Preference is given to Montessori transfer students within the wait pool.
Elementary-aged children visit NNM for a day, and records and recommendations are requested from their current school. A decision is made by the administration following receipt of all requested information.
