About our Faculty

"…Doing so, the teacher will be witness to the unfolding of a New Man or New Woman who will not be the victim of events, but will have the clarity of vision to direct and shape the future of human society."

At the core of Near North's program is a dedicated staff. All teachers are required to have a baccalaureate degree before they begin their Montessori training which includes the mastery of specific learning materials and the principles of child development. Teachers are certified by the Association Montessori Internationale or the American Montessori Society.

Teachers have a command of all areas of the curriculum and are able to integrate the Montessori pedagogy in a creative and personal manner. In addition to professional standards, each teacher has an interest and enthusiasm for continuing their own education. Seminars, courses and in-service workshops give depth and breadth to their educational backgrounds. Flexibility, creativity, sensitivity and spontaneity are just a few of the qualities inherent in the Near North faculty.

Because of the three-year association with each child, Montessori teachers have a greater knowledge of and sense of responsibility for the children as individuals. At the elementary and jr. high levels, classes are team taught to ensure the continuity, balance and quality of the curriculum.

Auxiliary staff conduct spanish, art, music, physical education and after school programs.
